2024 Recap: Sold-out Steel City event hosted landmen from 13 states
The 2024 Appalachian Land Institute once again hosted a packed house of energy professionals from across the U.S. eager to learn and make new connections in the Pittsburgh area.
ALI included an incredible speaker lineup covering timely topics relevant to the entire energy industry as well as some unique to the region, such as development and mining in Appalachia, powering Pennsylvania and statutory pooling in West Virginia. Topics not specific to the region included the basics of artificial intelligence, an overview of mineral purchasing and ethical issues, among others. Former Speaker of the Pennsylvania House of Representatives and current General Counsel at Peoples Natural Gas Mike Turzai served as ALI’s luncheon keynote, providing intriguing intel and updates on the energy industry from a political perspective.
After a full and productive schedule of professional development, the first day concluded with a fun networking reception on-site. The learning and networking continued on day two with a half day of sessions.
For the second year in a row, the Appalachian Land Institute sold out in advance, even after expanding capacity. This year’s full house marks a 55% increase from 2022 and a 15% increase from 2023. The institute provided plenty of opportunities for attendees to connect with other regional and nonregional energy professionals. ALI attendees represented 13 states: Colorado, Illinois, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maryland, Nebraska, New York, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Texas and West Virginia.
ALI not only provided a high quantity of attendees and education sessions, it also delivered on quality: 100% of survey respondents rated the institute as either very good or excellent!
We are truly grateful for the partnership of the Michael Late Benedum Chapter of AAPL on this mainstay event. We especially want to thank Bill O’Brien, Charles Saffer and Abby Veigel for their part in putting together such an excellent program. We also want to thank all our institute sponsors, speakers and attendees for making ALI such a prominent event.
We look forward to an even larger crowd of energy professionals and exciting new topics to cover at the 2025 Appalachian Land Institute!
