2024 Recap: Inaugural Oklahoma Energy Institute

The Sooner State’s first AAPL Energy Institute is in the books! The inaugural Oklahoma Energy Institute at Devon Energy’s HQ in OKC provided fresh and relevant professional development that provided the opportunity to earn 7 AAPL CEUs and CLEs from Oklahoma, Texas and Louisiana. Seven states were represented by over 175 energy professionals of all backgrounds, providing plenty of chances to create new business contacts throughout the event.

The institute kicked off with a federal delegation session that featured U.S. Rep. Kevin Hern and Sen. James Lankford and was moderated by Brooke Baum, director of external affairs and sustainability at Devon Energy. Marty Latz, CEO of Latz Negotiation, then delivered an insightful negotiation and ethics session, where all attendees were treated with a free copy of Latz’s book Gain the Edge! Negotiating to Get What You Want.

Breakout sessions took place over two educational tracks — Business and Petro-Technical — featuring 13 industry experts covering hot topics. Additionally, guided tours of Devon Energy’s expansive Subsurface Center were offered to attendees throughout the day.

After both tracks concluded, all attendees enjoyed an executive panel featuring Rick Muncrief, president and CEO of Devon Energy, Pierce Norton, president of ONEOK, and Mark Lashier, chairman and CEO of Phillips 66. The discussion was moderated by Ann Bluntzer, executive director of the Hamm Institute for American Energy.

After the conclusion of all professional development sessions and a brief networking happy hour reception, attendees were invited to catch some holiday spirit at the Oklahoma City Association of Professional Landmen’s Christmas Party at The Jones Assembly.

Special thanks to all attendees, speakers, sponsors, committee members, the Oklahoma City Association of Professional Landmen, the Tulsa Association of Petroleum Landmen and Devon Energy for making this brand-new event such a huge success!
