2024 Recap: Annual Event Delivers an Empowering Experience
Hundreds of women and men from over 14 states gathered in Houston for the second edition of AAPL’s Women in Energy Institute. With over one-third of attendees being nonmembers, WiEI truly was made for energy professionals of all disciplines and provided many opportunities to make new, unique connections.
The event started with an evening welcome reception at the swanky and classy Hotel ZaZa in Houston’s Museum District, where attendees reconnected with old friends and formed new business connections as they all planned for the next day of professional development.
Oct. 15 began with breakfast, mimosas and a Morningside Chat featuring Ovintiv’s President & CEO Brendan McCracken and EVP of Midstream, Marketing & General Counsel Meghan Eilers. “Making Modern Life Possible: OVV’s Commitment to Building Culture and Values” explored how Ovintiv prioritizes the creation of a robust and dynamic workforce by embedding core values into its culture.
The day continued with top-notch education covering three unique tracks — Land/Legal, Leadership and M&A. All attendees reunited for a luncheon panel featuring four current or former board members of corporate and nonprofit entities within the industry and beyond. Certified landmen could earn 5.75 CEUs throughout the institute, with energy attorneys eligible for CLEs from Texas, Louisiana and Oklahoma.
Other fun offerings included a dessert networking break, a bonus reception at the NAPE Charities Pickleball Tournament and the popular charity wine pull, which benefited AAPL’s Education Foundation.
Like in 2023, 100% of post-con survey respondents found WiEI valuable and plan to return next year!
“My boss brought me along, and I am quite blown away with the topics covered,” one respondent said. “Hope to come again!”
AAPL would like to thank all who attended and our 40 world-class presenters who shared their insight over three educational tracks. We would also like to thank our generous sponsors and supporters, talented presenters, hardworking committee members and Alliance Partner Ovintiv for their support throughout the event! WiEI was such a success thanks to your time, skills, resources and effort.
